Today was a drizzly, wet, overcast day. We walked along the streets of Oban and then climbed the 1000 steps, okay at least 200 to the top of McCaig’s Tower which was built on the historic site of Battle Hill. It is a grey granite circular screen wall which overlooks the town centre. The original project was to provide work for unemployed stone masons in the 1890’2, therefore it was built in stages. The Coliseum in Rome has been suggested as the inspiration for this tower. We made our way back down and onto the pier to buy some scallops for dinner.
